Film Festivals and Competitions

When FVD learns of a festival or competition that may be of interest to Duke students, we send out an announcement to the Film-Video mailing list (join it).  Below are some links to festivals and competitions. Click on (Rules) to learn about how to enter.

Flicker Film Festival has bi-monthly film festivals in nearby Carrboro (near Chapel Hill).  There are Flicker chapters all over the world.  An opportunity to show your film to a live audience. 

Full Frame Documentary Film Festival. (Rules) In Downtown Durham April 3 - 6, 2008
Late Deadline: November 30, 2007.

Tribeca Film Festival. (Rules) In NYC April 23-May 4, 2008. Students submit work for free. 
Deadline: Dec. 14, 2007.

Ivy Film Festival (Rules) Completely student run festival for student work.  Competitions: films & screenplays.  Deadline for Film Festival is extended to February 15

Blue Cat Screenplay Competition. (Rules) Tthe screenwriter's screenplay contest.  They offer script feedback. Deadline: March 3, 2008.

Grants Available to Students for Film Festival expenses

FVD has limited funds to cover entry fees for competitive films. If you have a well-done film/video you would like to enter, consult with our Assistant Director, Josh Gibson.  Be sure to bring the festival information.  We will evaluate your film and possibly award you funds to enter the competition.  If your film/video is selected for the Festival, let us know.  There may be additional funds to pay for travel and other expenses.
